SALT LAKE CITY — It appears ownership of Utah's professional soccer teams could be changing hands once again, just three years after Ryan Smith joined David Blitzer in purchasing Real Salt Lake.
Sportico reported Friday that the Miller family — former longtime owners of the Utah Jazz — are in advanced talks with Blitzer to buy control stakes in RSL and the Utah Royals.
The exact terms of the transaction were not named, but Sportico estimates RSL's value at $525 million and the Royals at $70 million.

Smith and Blitzer purchased RSL for approximately $400 million in January 2022 and brought the Royals back to Utah last year as an expansion team after the original club was sold to Kansas City.
Though brief, the Smith-Blitzer ownership era included the two largest player purchases in RSL history with Andres Gomez and Chicho Arango, and the largest sale when Gomez was flipped to French club Rennes in August 2024.
The ownership group also invested heavily in the return of the Royals by building a new training and performance center for the NWSL side connected to RSL's facility in Herriman.
The Miller family, led by Gail, are familiar business partners with Smith after selling the Jazz to him in 2020. The Millers retained ownership of the Salt Lake Bees and have been active in trying to bring an MLB team to Utah with the Big League Utah campaign.
The purchase of RSL and the Royals would mark the family's first foray into soccer.
