LAYTON — Two people were injured Friday when a ladder they were using to clean out rain gutters touched a power line.

Police received a call about noon reporting the incident near 1928 E. Deer Valley Drive in Layton. When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old man seriously injured, said Layton Police Lt. Clint Bobrowski.

"We believe his ladder came in contact with the electric power lines, and he had severe burns," Bobrowski said.

The man was flown to the University of Utah Hospital for treatment, the lieutenant said.

The second person, a 22-year-old woman, was burned when she moved the ladder, Bobrowski said. Her injuries were described as minor.

Bobrowski said police are not sure what happened to cause the ladder to come in contact with the powerlines. The incident remains under investigation.
