ST. GEORGE — A suspicious travel story and a K-9 alert during a traffic stop in St. George led to the arrest of a local couple after a distributable amount of suspected marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms was allegedly found in their vehicle.

A week ago, a St. George couple, 43-year-old Kay Sorrels and Kibb Vern Jones, 46, were booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility on multiple charges, including second-degree felony possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and a third-degree felony count of the same charge.

Each also faces misdemeanor possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, while Jones faces an additional count of driving on a suspended license.

The arrests stem from a traffic stop conducted shortly after midnight on Dec. 27 in St. George when an officer noticed the vehicle the couple was traveling in entered the roadway without stopping, according to a police report.
