KEY TAKEAWAYS
  • Bangerter Highway will close temporarily for pedestrian bridge installation in South Jordan.
  • The closure, from 9000 South to 104000 South, lasts Friday night to Saturday morning.

SOUTH JORDAN — A temporary closure will be in place for part of Bangerter Highway while crews install a pedestrian bridge Friday night.

Bangerter Highway will be closed in both directions from 9000 South to 104000 South from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday. The Utah Department of Transportation will be installing a pedestrian bridge just south of the 9800 South intersection.

"Once finished, the bridge will provide safer access to neighborhoods, Elk Meadows Elementary School and Elk Ridge Middle School," a statement from UDOT said.

During the closure, traffic will be detoured off of Bangerter onto 2700 West and 4000 West, then back onto the highway.

This closure is part of various construction projects in the area UDOT is working on to eliminate stoplights on Bangerter Highway and convert intersections into freeway-style interchanges.

East-west traffic at the 13400 South intersection is currently closed while UDOT crews rebuild it into an interchange. Conversion projects are also in the works for 4700 South and 2700 West.

"Bangerter Highway is one of the valley's largest north-to-south corridors, moving an average of 60,000 vehicles per day. Removing stoplights and converting all intersections into freeway-style interchanges will enhance safety and help keep traffic moving in the ever-growing west side of the Salt Lake Valley," UDOT said.

UDOT crews will also be closing the following ramps and lanes in Salt Lake City this weekend for overhead sign installation.

  • The on-ramp from 500 South to I-15 will be closed overnight from Friday to Saturday morning.
  • Three southbound lanes from 900 South to 1300 South, the off-ramp for Exit 305 C-A, and two lanes, both directions, on I-15 from 5300 South to 4500 South will be closed Sunday night to early Monday.
  • The northbound Bangerter Highway on-ramp to I-80 and North Temple will be closed late Monday to early Tuesday.
