SALT LAKE CITY — One year after being edged out of medalist honors following a three-putt on the 17th hole, Corner Canyon rising senior Bowen Mauss rebounded for top honors at the Salt Lake City Amateur.

The Arizona State commit carded five birdies and an eagle on the par-5 first hole en route to his second-straight 68 to hold off Devin Tovey by one stroke Sunday at Bonneville Golf Course.

Tovey finished one shot back with a two-day total of 7-under-par 137, followed by a group that included former Utah golfer Martin Leon, three-time Utah mid-amateur champ David Jennings and former pro Steele DeWald at 140.

Mauss, who won medalist honors at the 6A state championship last fall, scattered his scorecard in Sunday's final round. After opening with his eagle, the Draper standout played the fifth and sixth holes at 3-over.

He pulled one back with a birdie on the short par-3 ninth hole, then carded four birdies on the back nine to hold off Tovey with his final birdie on No. 17.

Utah Tech's Zach Felts finished sixth at 3-under 141, BYU's Zac Jones seventh at 2-under, and Desert Hills rising senior Brock Porter, Jacob Marx, Utah Tech rising sophomore Bode Salas and Olympus' Austin Shelley rounded out the top 10.

Mauss plans to play in the Utah state junior amateur, which tees off Monday with stroke play at Lakeside Golf Course in West Bountiful.
