OGDEN — Steven Verplancken's night helped Weber State to its fourth win of the season Monday night against the visiting Navajo Tech Skyhawks.
The Wildcats outscored the Skyhawks 51-17 in the first half, and extended the lead with a 56-28 effort in the second half in 107-45 rout of the Skyhawks.
Weber State showcased a well-rounded performance, with four players reaching double figures, and an impressive display of 13 participating Wildcats players contributing to the scoreboard. The 62-point win now stands as the ninth-largest margin of victory in the school's history.
"We were able to see different groups of people together on the floor and get better with each other, so it was a good team effort all around," Weber State junior Blaise Threatt told the Standard Examiner.
Weber State maintained control throughout the night, shooting 51% from the field, while limiting Navajo Tech to a mere 28% success rate.
The Wildcats displayed its prowess with 15 made 3-pointers and dominated the boards 54-31 to outrebound the Skyhawks. Weber State also tallied 21 assists and forced 20 turnovers on Navajo Tech.
Verplancken emerged as the leading scorer for Weber State, scoring a season-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, while matching his career-high of five 3-pointers. Verplancken also contributed six rebounds and three assists to the team's impressive performance.
Threatt recorded a double-double, 10 points and 11 rebounds, in just 19 minutes of play, and showcased his all-around skills by also contributing seven assists and four steals.
KJ Cunningham finished with a season-high 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Wildcats freshman Marko Sarenac also made a significant impact with a career-high 14 points.
The Wildcats move to 4-2 on the season after the win and look ahead to a game against in-state opponent Utah Valley on Dec. 5.
