WEST VALLEY CITY — One person is dead and two others were seriously injured after a vehicle rolled off of the I-215 overpass and onto 3500 South, hitting another vehicle below, officials confirmed.
On Sunday afternoon, a man driving a Toyota Tundra was heading north on I-215 West when the car went off the freeway at the 3500 South off-ramp, jumped the ramp and crashed into a GMC Envoy that was traveling east on 3500 South, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been identified pending family notification.
The GMC’s driver and female passenger were transported to a nearby hospital in serious-to-critical condition but are expected to recover, UHP officials said.
Information about what caused the car to go off the overpass was not immediately available.
3500 South was temporarily closed in both directions near I-215 West as officials worked to clear the scene.
