BOUNTIFUL — A fire that started last week in Bountiful is now completely contained, and trail closures have been lifted in the area.
The Summerwood Fire started Aug. 29 about a quarter-mile east of the Summerwood subdivision several miles south of Bountiful City. It has burned 56 acres in steep, rugged terrain, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Firefighters were able to completely contain the fire on Saturday, the Forest Service said.
All trail closures now have been lifted in the area, including:
- Bonneville Shoreline Trail north access
- All other trails north and west of City Creek Canyon
- North City Creek Ridgeline trail at easternmost communication tower
- Tunnel Springs Bonneville Shoreline trail
- Mueller Park Trail (Forest Service Trail No. 1602), and
- North Canyon Trail (Forest Service Trail No. 1601). Forest Service officials said Saturday they believed the fire was human-caused, but the exact cause was still under investigation. Three fire engines, with one hand crew and one fire squad, worked the blaze. About 45 total personnel responded to the fire, the Forest Service said.
