NORTH SALT LAKE — Hiking with young children is not always easy, but one hiking trail in Davis County offers all that you may need to get outdoors as a family.

The Wild Rose Trail, located in North Salt Lake above the Eaglewood Golf Course, is a 1.7-mile loop overlooking the valley. The hike doesn't take long and can easily be done in one hour.

As its name implies, it features several beautiful wildflowers and scenic views along the trail. Most of the hike is open and exposed, but there are portions of the trail that are shady and forested. The main trail is a moderate hike with a scenic look off midway through the trail. This hike is enough to get your blood pumping, but not too hard for young children.

The area features different options at the Wild Rose Trailhead for hikers and bikers. Most of the trails can be used for both hiking or biking, but there are several breakaway trails reserved for only biking as to avoid foot traffic. The terrain of all the trails is dirt, but they are well trekked and easy to use.

Along the trail are several benches if you need to take a breather, including some located in the shade. There's also a bench at the lookout point to give you an opportunity to relax while overlooking the valley. However, be mindful of the red ants.

As a bonus to families, there is a small park and playground at the base of the trail. Spend the day grilling and playing in the park or enjoy the brief hike for a little more adventure.

Hikers looking to get to the trail should travel east on Eagle Ridge Drive in North Salt Lake before turning onto Eaglepointe Drive, which is right before the golf course. Turn left on Sky Crest Lane and Wild Rose Trailhead Park will be ahead with a small parking lot.
