SALT LAKE CITY — It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Sure, Thanksgiving comes first, but it’s also time to think about your Christmas tree.
Monday marked the beginning of the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service’s annual pinyon pine, juniper and fir tree permit sale for the holiday.
According to the forest service, all trees in national forests must be cut close to the ground, with a stump no higher than 6 inches from the ground. Officials suggest anyone cutting trees bring a shovel in case they have to dig through snow to the base of the tree. Cutting trees is also prohibited 200 feet from water features, roads, campgrounds, picnic areas, administrative sites, homes/cabins or within designated closed areas on tree-cutting maps.

Dixie National Forest
