SALT LAKE CITY — If you’re especially environmentally conscious, there’s a chance you could be headed to Maui, courtesy of Vivint Solar.

The Utah-based company has opened applications for its Eco Adventure Challenge contest.

The winner will be paid $2,000 to plan and take an ecotourism trip to Maui and document the trip on social media. They'll also be allowed a $4,000 travel stipend to book eco-friendly transportation, lodging, activities and entertainment for their trip, according to a news release.

However, the company will require the winning applicant to make their trip as eco-friendly as possible, the company’s website states.

“The company's goal with this challenge is to bring awareness to the importance of making eco-friendly choices while traveling to eco-rich destinations like Maui,” the release states.

The company will be accepting applications through Nov. 18.

People who have creative and engaging ideas — including photos, videos and other media — for documenting the trip are encouraged to apply, the company’s website says.

Ideal applicants should also be active on social media and know how to make environmentally conscious decisions while traveling, according to the website.

After Nov. 18, a board of Vivint Solar employees will review the applications and select the best candidate.

"We realize the impact of humans on the environment extends beyond the home," Miranda Barnard, Vivint Solar Vice President of Marketing, said in the news release. "That's why the goal of this challenge is to bring awareness to the potential for making more environmentally conscious decisions while traveling to destinations with diverse ecosystems like Maui."

More information about the challenge, as well as the contest rules, are available at vivintsolar.com/blog/eco-adventure-in-hawaii.
