When arguments arise, it can be difficult to extend kindness and understanding — especially with loved ones. Even when things are fine and you're going about your normal daily routine, going out of the way to be kind to a spouse, parent or child may not be an instinctual thought.
But according to the Mayo Clinic, practicing kindness "activates the part of your brain that makes you feel pleasure." So if you go out of your way to help and uplift others around you, they won't be the only ones benefiting.
