SPANISH FORK — Lincoln Beach and Marina at Utah Lake has been closed again due to “very high” levels of cyanobacteria found in the water, officials said Wednesday.

Water samples taken on Aug. 6 and 8 revealed levels of the liver toxin microcystin that in some areas were twice the threshold concentration recommended for recreation, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality said on Facebook.

People are advised not to swim, boat or recreate in the water, according to the DEQ.

All of Utah Lake remains on a warning due to a harmful algae bloom, which was announced last week. Lincoln Beach and Marina was previously closed this summer due to health concerns.

People and their pets or other animals are warned to stay out of the lake, the DEQ said. Cyanobacteria is especially harmful to pets, according to the DEQ.

Further updates about the algae blooms will be posted at habs.utah.gov. Symptoms of exposure to cyanobacteria include nausea, headaches and skin irritation.

Anyone who thinks they may have been exposed can contact the Utah Poison Control Center at 800-222-1222.
