PARK CITY — Sepp Kuss of Team Lotto NL-Jumbo took the sixth and final stage of the 2018 Tour of Utah to cruise to the yellow jersey as the tour's top overall rider Sunday in Park City.

His win didn't seem obvious earlier on, though. He reached the base of Empire Pass more than two minutes behind lead rider Nate Brown of EF-Drapac. Then, he began gaining on the other cyclists. As he headed toward the finish line, the Colorado native heard a voice — or rather, several thousand loud voices — that helped him surge to the finish line, the Deseret News reports.

"The fans were so loud I couldn’t hear anything behind me," Kuss told the Deseret News. "I thought if they pass me, I won’t even know because it was so loud and I was trying to drive all the way to the line."

TJ Eisenhart, a St. George resident who grew up in Lehi, finished 16th in Sunday’s stage to finish in the top-20 with a weeklong time of 14 minutes, 30 seconds behind Kuss, Deseret News reports.

After the win, Team Lotto NL-Jumbo announced that Kuss will depart almost immediately for the Tour of Spain, scheduled for late August, according to Deseret News. The article also indicated that the Tour of Utah will likely take place between Aug. 12 and Aug. 18 next year.
