WEST VALLEY CITY — A man was arrested Tuesday evening following a SWAT situation outside an apartment at 1843 W. Parkway Boulevard.

Troy Archuletta, 26, was arrested on suspicion of "felony (domestic violence) aggravated assault, DV criminal mischief and 2 counts DV in presence of a child," a tweet from the West Valley Police Department said.

Assistant Police Chief Matt Elson said the incident began when witnesses say Archuletta attacked his girlfriend. Soon afterward, Archuletta retreated inside an apartment with the woman's 5-year-old son and a 15-year-old niece still inside.

SWAT officers were brought in to try and get Archuletta to come out with the children. After nearly three hours of trying to call him out of the apartment, police negotiators were successful.

"The first one out was the 5-year-old; then the female came out ... as well as our primary suspect," Elson said.

No one was hurt in the incident. Archuletta was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
