BONKERS TOWN — At one time in all of our lives we assume we're daredevils. Because let's be honest, it takes guts to rocket off a piece of wood you found in the garage propped up on a log from the woodpile on your 10-speed bike with a shady back tire.
If you are anywhere near my age then you likely faced that deathtrap head-on while pretending to be the one and only Evel Knievel. The man was a legend and even became a verb. Well at least in my neighborhood vernacular he did: I'm gonna Evel Knievel that curb.
Most of us grew out of that mentality and ended up in desk jobs only breaking out our best Evel impression when we're trying to impress our kids or make a bad choice on the neighborhood pool diving board. But one person who never grew out of the Knievel stage was Travis Pastrana.
Yesterday's Have You Seen This?
Kids today most likely aren't saying, "I'm going to Knievel this thing," but rather saying, "I'm gonna Travis Pastrana this backflip so hard."
The man does insane stuff like skydiving without a parachute, double backflipping on a motorcycle or recreating some of Knievel's most iconic stunts.
This past weekend Pastrana, decked out in Knievel gear, recreated some of the legend's stunts at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, including jumping 52 crushed cars, jumping 16 Greyhound buses and completing the stunt that nearly killed Knievel: jumping the Caesar's Palace fountains.
These three videos show off each stunt and brought me right back to when I was 10 years old and jumping off make-shift ramps on my Huffy.
