SPRINGDALE, Washington County — A Zion National Park trail remains closed Tuesday after a rock fall occurred in a 45-foot section of the trail where hikers are required to hold onto chains, park officials said.
Park rangers received a report of a rock fall at the Hidden Canyon Trail late Monday afternoon, according to Aly Baltrus, Zion National Park's chief of interpretation and visitor services.
No hikers were injured in the slide.
Baltrus said the trail was immediately closed after the rock fall and will remain closed until the chains in the 45-foot section can be assessed and the trail is cleared of sand and rocks.
There is no timetable for when the trail will reopen, but park officials tweeted Monday night that the trail would be closed through at least Tuesday.
The Hidden Canyon Trail leads from the East Rim Trail into the side ravine between Cable Mountain and the north wall of the Great White Throne. The other trails remained open.
Rock falls and slides aren't uncommon at the park. A separate rock fall injured two hikers and closed the Riverside Walk trail last month. The trail was reopened the following day.
