SALT LAKE CITY — For the first time in program history, Utah gymnastics has named a director of recruiting and player development, the team announced Monday.

Carly Dockendorf, who served as the team’s volunteer assistant coach and choreographer last season, will now be involved in all aspects of recruiting, including strategy, database management, on-campus official and unofficial visits, and recruiting travel.

“With her passion for Utah gymnastics and her high level of expertise in the sport, we realized she would be a great addition to our recruiting efforts,” Utah co-head coach Tom Farden said in a statement.

Dockendorf's new role also includes being the liaison between Utah gymnasts and campus departments, assisting incoming freshmen and track academic progress reports, study table hours, and mentor meetings to help the program continue its impressive academics.

Utah gymnastics recently received public recognition from the NCAA for posting a multi-year Academic Progress Report in the top 10 percent of all athletic teams in the country and tied for the top score in its sport. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation of all Division I student-athletes on scholarship. This past season, the Red Rocks earned a perfect 1000 APR score.

Entering her second year on staff, Dockendorf spent last season helping curate one of the country’s best floor teams. MyKayla Skinner and Sydney Soloski both won All-American honors on floor. Skinner won the floor exercise title at both the Pac-12 Championship and NCAA Regional, sharing the latter with teammate MaKenna Merrell-Giles.

“Carly did an outstanding job as our volunteer assistant,” Farden said. “We are thrilled to name Carly as our first director of recruiting and player development.”

Dockendorf is a former Canadian National team member and two-sport NCAA All-American at Washington. In 2003, she won the Pac-12 uneven bar title and earned All-American honors on floor. She also was a three-time NCAA regional champion before spending six years at Seattle Pacific University as an assistant gymnastics coach (2009, 2013-17) and coach at Falcon Gymnastics Center from 2012-17.
