UPDATE: Search and rescue teams located the missing hiker early Thursday on Mount Timpanogos. He was tired and dehydrated but not injured, according to Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

AMERICAN FORK CANYON — Police are searching for a man who did not return as planned from hiking at Mount Timpanogos on Tuesday.

The 56-year-old man, who was not identified, was supposed to return from hiking the mountain and meet his wife at midnight Tuesday, but searchers have not been able to find him, Utah County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Spencer Cannon said on Twitter Wednesday. The man was near Emerald Lake when his wife last heard from him, Cannon said.

The man is equipped for hiking and was prepared to spend the night, but was not planning on it, Cannon said.

Utah Department of Public Safety and Life Flight helicopters were searching for him near the Timpooneke Trailhead area in American Fork Canyon, Cannon said.
