PROVO — A man was found dead after a six-hour SWAT standoff following a domestic incident where he shot and injured his wife, according to police.
Michael Skinner, 48, died inside the home near 1432 W. 500 North, Provo police officials said on Facebook.
The incident started about 10:17 p.m. Saturday, Provo police officials said. As of 7 a.m. Sunday, the woman, 48, was in surgery, but was expected to survive after suffering 3 gunshot wounds, officials said.
The man shot his wife and then barricaded himself inside the home, according to Provo police detective Nick Dupaix.
A SWAT team responded, but when they entered the home about 4:39 a.m. Sunday, they found Skinner dead inside, he said.
Police were still investigating the situation, but it appeared that there was a fight between Skinner and his 22-year-old son, police officials said. The son and wife left the house, but the wife then went back inside to retrieve a pair of shoes.
She saw Skinner inside the house with a handgun and left the home where she was shot three times in the driveway. Ten shots were fired in total, police said.
