SALT LAKE CITY — You may have noticed Utah Jazz-themed signs on the freeway Monday morning, and you can thank Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox for that.

Cox commandeered the Utah Department of Transportation electronic signs and asked the Twittersphere for ideas that promoted road safety while also rooting for the hometown team in the NBA playoffs.

> Ok friends, on Monday I’m taking over UDOT’s freeway signs & I need your ideas (by tomorrow at 8pm): > 1\) Must be both [@utahjazz](https://twitter.com/utahjazz?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) AND safety themed. [\#TakeNote](https://twitter.com/hashtag/TakeNote?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) > 2\) You have 3 lines & 17 characters per line (including spaces). > 3\) Use hashtag [\#JazzSign](https://twitter.com/hashtag/JazzSign?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw). > Best idea wins! [pic.twitter.com/5VjQPtnyjg](https://t.co/5VjQPtnyjg) > > — Spencer Cox (@SpencerJCox) [April 13, 2018](https://twitter.com/SpencerJCox/status/984847460706086913?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

The end result? Hundreds of hilarious ideas in a contest ultimately won by Fox 13 meteorologist Allison Croghan.

Cox’s Top 10 picks

> Number 10: I know the Lakers didn’t even make the playoffs, but [@UTEISH](https://twitter.com/UTEISH?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) speaks for all Jazz fans here. And the only thing worse than Lakers’ fans are people that go too slow in the left lane. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 [pic.twitter.com/P2rvtWMxD7](https://t.co/P2rvtWMxD7) > > — Spencer Cox (@SpencerJCox) [April 16, 2018](https://twitter.com/SpencerJCox/status/985701488428171264?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Number 9: Sure it’s been 20 years. And yes Jordan is the 🐐. But [@itschappy](https://twitter.com/itschappy?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) nailed it. And I promise I’m not bitter anymore...(I’m totally still bitter 🤬🤬🤬) [pic.twitter.com/Dihp8xaycx](https://t.co/Dihp8xaycx) > > — Spencer Cox (@SpencerJCox) [April 16, 2018](https://twitter.com/SpencerJCox/status/985702219453313024?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Number 8: This never doesn’t make me laugh. And, for the record, it’s THREE contracts [@BluCougTX](https://twitter.com/BluCougTX?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) (you probably owe [@JimboRudding](https://twitter.com/JimboRudding?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) royalties for this one). > Number 7: Jazz fans were devastated on July 4th when some guy left the team. Even worse was HOW he left. If only I could remember his name. [@davidjsmith1232](https://twitter.com/davidjsmith1232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) gets it. (Btw, I asked Gail about this once...I won’t share her answer but it made me smile. 😏) [pic.twitter.com/JHGykIaq5R](https://t.co/JHGykIaq5R) > > — Spencer Cox (@SpencerJCox) [April 16, 2018](https://twitter.com/SpencerJCox/status/985704044818649088?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Number 6: In a season where Jazz fans didn’t expect much, the emergence of Donovan [@spidadmitchell](https://twitter.com/spidadmitchell?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) as an all-world talent turned everything around. With the ROY, DPOY & COY, the Jazz are legit. (And DUI was the perfect safety tie-in by [@ScottTheAmazing](https://twitter.com/ScottTheAmazing?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)). > Number 5: I laughed. > > (And it’s also true). Thanks [@EBethCraig](https://twitter.com/EBethCraig?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw). 😂😂😂 [pic.twitter.com/OBBDOMS8kG](https://t.co/OBBDOMS8kG) > > — Spencer Cox (@SpencerJCox) [April 16, 2018](https://twitter.com/SpencerJCox/status/985706059619643394?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Number 4: Well played [@COL\_James83](https://twitter.com/COL_James83?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw). Well played. 😏 [pic.twitter.com/9eiR28Nfw2](https://t.co/9eiR28Nfw2) > > — Spencer Cox (@SpencerJCox) [April 16, 2018](https://twitter.com/SpencerJCox/status/985706807837409280?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Number 3: Many tried, but only [@stwinng](https://twitter.com/stwinng?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) nailed an iconic Hot Rod phrase. And yes, we all miss Hot Rod. (And if you haven’t seen the new Hot Rod documentary, you must). 😢 [pic.twitter.com/vQBLrfLaoS](https://t.co/vQBLrfLaoS) > > — Spencer Cox (@SpencerJCox) [April 16, 2018](https://twitter.com/SpencerJCox/status/985707560786264068?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

> Number 2: Speaking of signature phrases...guys, it’s BOLER! Simple. Smooth. Perfect. So many tried to use it, but [@BuckleUpBoler](https://twitter.com/BuckleUpBoler?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) owns it. Can we get that man a blue checkmark? (It didn’t win...but there’s a good chance we will see it on a sign soon). > > And the winner is... > NUMBER 1: I ❤️ this submission by [@AllisonCroghan](https://twitter.com/AllisonCroghan?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw). Bonus points for being an actual meteorologist! Look for ZERO PERCENT CHANCE OF THUNDER on your commute tomorrow. Congrats Allison! > > And thanks for having fun with me. Tough loss tonight, but [\#JazzNation](https://twitter.com/hashtag/JazzNation?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) is strong. [\#TakeNote](https://twitter.com/hashtag/TakeNote?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [pic.twitter.com/xFgeo3QsDr](https://t.co/xFgeo3QsDr) > > — Spencer Cox (@SpencerJCox) [April 16, 2018](https://twitter.com/SpencerJCox/status/985711135113408512?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

Here are a few more gems that just missed the cut:

> Get buckets, not tickets. > > OK, C the road—don’t text and drive. > > idk, we’ll workshop [\#JazzSign](https://twitter.com/hashtag/JazzSign?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) > > — Utah Jazz (@utahjazz) [April 13, 2018](https://twitter.com/utahjazz/status/984852325654085632?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)

As you can see, there are some creative thinkers out there rooting for the Jazz against Oklahoma City and for safety on Utah's roadways.
