RIRIE, Idaho — Kelly Canyon Ski Area in Ririe announced on Monday that it would close due to unseasonably warm temperatures and the lack of snow.

“While there is still significant snow on many of the ski runs at Kelly Canyon, the recent unusually warm temperatures combined with the lack of snowfall have created abnormally slick surfaces on the mountain particularly at the base,” the ski area posted on Facebook on Monday. “Such weather makes for unsafe skiing conditions and causes it to be nearly impossible to safely run the groomers and to make snow.”

However, Kelly Canyon officials said that if sufficient snowfall returns for the resort to safely operate, it could reopen for a time before spring.

Kelly Canyon also said that any quadkards, gift cards or vouchers purchased this season will be honored next season. Information about season pass sales in March will be coming soon.
