SALT LAKE CITY — The LDS Church is poised to announce new church leadership Tuesday morning, according to church officials.

President Russell M. Nelson, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, is scheduled to address members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a live broadcast at 9 a.m.

Following his address, President Nelson will deliver a press conference introducing the new church leadership at 10 a.m.

The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has been leading the church since the death of late church President Thomas S. Monson nearly two weeks ago.

The new leadership of the church will consist of a First Presidency made up of a president and two counselors. President Henry B. Eyring was the first counselor and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf served as the second counselor in the First Presidency with President Monson. The two could again be called to serve in the First Presidency, or two other members could be selected to fill those roles.

A pattern of the senior apostle becoming the new church president began with Brigham Young, following the death of church founder Joseph Smith.

Tuesday's announcement will be broadcast to members throughout the world live on KSL.com, KSL TV, LDS.org and MormonNewsroom.org. It will also be broadcast in 29 languages worldwide via the church's satellite system.

An audio broadcast will air on KSL Newsradio and BYU Radio.

An updated article will be posted as events unfold.
