PAYSON — Two people are facing drug-related charges after Utah County sheriff’s deputies discovered 7 pounds of methamphetamine in a vehicle they were driving during a traffic stop Friday, according to charging documents.

Roberto Carlos Lopez-Alejandre, 25, of Taylorsville, and Lisa P. Dupuy, 32, of Pleasant Grove, were each charged in 4th District Court Monday in relation to the arrest.

Lopez-Alejandre was charged with possession of methamphetamine with an intent to distribute with a prior distribution, a first-degree felony, and possession or use of methamphetamine with a prior distribution, a third-degree felony, according to charging documents.

Dupuy was charged with possession of methamphetamine with an intent to distribute with a prior distribution, a second-degree felony, as well as use or possession of methamphetamine, a class A misdemeanor.

Both were also charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from a traffic stop early Friday morning when a Utah County sheriff's deputy pulled over a Jeep Lopez-Alejandre was driving on northbound I-15 near Payson shortly after midnight.

The deputy learned during the traffic stop that Lopez-Alejandre didn’t have a driver’s license and was on parole and that Dupuy had a warrant for her arrest, according to a jail report. The deputy also noted Lopez-Alejandre showed signs of impairment and alcohol in the vehicle, according to the report.

Both Lopez-Alejandre and Dupuy told the deputy they were traveling back from Mesquite, Nevada, after gambling that day. The deputy then said both “could not keep consistent stories in regards to their travel,” leading to the sheriff’s office bringing in a K-9 unit to search the vehicle, the report stated.

The K-9 deputy alerted other deputies to a substance in the vehicle. Deputies then located “a small amount of methamphetamine” that Dupuy “spontaneously stated belongs to her,” the report stated. A second bag of methamphetamine was located on Lopez-Alejandre’s person, which the man told authorities “I forgot I had,” the report stated.

Deputies then located 7.05 pounds of methamphetamine inside the Jeep, which officials said equated to about 320,000 individual uses of the substance. Both Lopez-Alejandre and Dupuy were arrested and booked into Utah County Jail, according to the jail report.

Court records show both have multiple previous drug-related arrests. Bail was set at $25,000 for each individual.
