THE DOG SPA — Our relationship with dogs may have started out as mutually beneficial, but I’m starting to think dogs got the better end of the ancient pact.
The internet is full of precocious pups who know just how far to push their owners so they can have their cake and eat it too. In fact, the phrase “puppy dog eyes” in relationship to manipulation came into being for a reason. All some dogs have to do is flash their “innocent,” big brown eyes and everyone melts into submission.
That is certainly the case with a dog named Toby. In the video, Toby is on a nature walk with at least one human and a whole pack of dogs.
The scenery of freshly fallen snow is beautiful, clean and white. But good ol’ Toby doesn’t give two barks about it. All he cares about is the glorious mud puddle he’s found.
Despite pleas from the woman in the video, Toby goes in and out of the mud puddle, eventually covering his whole furry being in squelchy mud. Occasionally he lifts up his head and flashes his puppy dog eyes, probably fully expecting to be forgiven of all his mud misdeeds.
The woman is successful in her commands that keep all the other dogs out of the mud, but Toby could not care less. The woman even tries the classic parenting tact with toddlers of walking away in a thinly veiled threat to leave the child/dog behind. Even that doesn’t move Toby into meaningful action.
Personally, I don’t blame Toby. Basically he found a free spa day and he 100 percent took advantage of it. Good boy, Toby!
