SALT LAKE CITY — While some people are looking forward to another helping of mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving dinner, others are preparing to serve themselves some serious doorbuster deals.

Anyone who has ever shopped or worked in retail on Black Friday knows just how hectic things can get. From customers pushing and shoving to get their hands on low-priced items to a Wal-Mart employee being trampled to death — Black Friday has seen it all.

But just how chaotic are things expected to get in Utah this year?

Decluttr.com looked at FBI arrest data for crimes involving property damage and disorderly conduct and compared it with Black Friday related Google searches in each state. The data was then adjusted to account for each state’s population to determine where consumers would see the most trouble and where they’d be likely to shop with ease.

At the top of Decluttr’s chaos index is Wyoming, with Illinois and Arizona second and third respectively. Utah ranked 28th for chaotic Black Friday shopping while Montana was likely to be the most peaceful state to shop this year.

But as Black Friday shopping has gotten more competitive each year, a recent survey showed for the first time ever more people said they plan to shop online instead of big name brick-and-mortars.

Whether or not shoppers will ever completely abandon camping outside big name retailers for doorbuster deals remains to be seen, but one thing is certain Black Friday shopping isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
