Snow is fun for the first little while but combined with ice and the long cold winter months, it gets old after a while.

With winter weather in full swing, it might seem like there’s little you can do to improve your home for resale or just for your own enjoyment. There’s obviously the basic home winterizing that can be done, including everything from gutter cleaning to making sure your pipes are in tip-top shape. But amid winterizing and weatherproofing, most homeowners just want to rest and relax during this time of year.

That being said, there’s plenty you can do to improve your home without the bother of working outside in the cold. Here are five simple indoor home improvement projects that are perfect for winter:

1. Carpets

Replacing or adding new carpet is probably something you’ve been meaning to do for ages, but just never got around to doing. To help you justify such a change, consider that wall-to-wall carpeting (particularly with certain types of carpet) actually increases your home’s R-value, or its ability to resist thermal conductivity. High R-value means better insulation, and less heat and energy loss in the winter.

Keep your feet cozy and your energy bill down by installing some wool or other varieties of carpet that can offer up to 2.1 R-value. Along with these benefits, you’ll leave your home looking better than ever for any family or friends who visit during the holidays.

2. Walls

If you’re going to be stuck inside most of the winter, you might as well make the walls you’re staring at a little more interesting. Perhaps it’s time to invest in more modern wall décor options. From plates to paintings, there’s so much you can do with a little imagination and just a simple adjustment of the décor you already have.

Scour the internet for your new favorite look, or get some inspiration from home improvement TV shows. Whatever gets your wheels turning, know that you don’t have to go overboard. Adding or changing a few simple pieces in the living areas are sure to spruce things up this winter.

In addition, painting your walls can be a great home improvement project for winter, too. As long as you use environmentally friendly waterborne paint, you won’t have any pesky fumes to contend with. The dry winter air also aids you in producing faster results, too.

3. Trim and Moldings

Fads come and go, but there’s no harm in adding some extra class to your rooms this holiday season. Get your home ready for that swanky holiday party by adding some crown molding or custom trim to each room.

You can add depth, style, and interest to any room simply by beefing up your moldings, and it’s a low-cost improvement that avoids the typical headache that some improvements can cause. A once-boring study or living area will have new life with something as simple as wider baseboards — which, incidentally, are all the rage right now.

4. Lights

Lighten up your holiday season with new or adjusted lighting options. If you have a strict budget, you could just focus on the living areas that guests will frequent. LED-style lighting is better than ever to help you cut energy costs each month, and who doesn’t want that?

Save money and face with new light fixtures to spruce up your rooms. There’s something for everyone with options available in any style, from pendant fixtures to Steampunk and more romantic-style fixtures.

Install a simple dimmer in your main rooms to add a new element to your home’s interior. The extra plus from a dimmer is that you can save by keeping the lights dim whenever bright light is unnecessary.

5. Doors

Doors obviously make and leave a lasting impression in any home. They are also something most homeowners forget to maintain, so any time is good for some front-door TLC.

Increase your home’s curb appeal by simply adding a fresh coat of paint, new door handles, or even some wood polish. And don't forget interior doors. Once you’ve spruced things up on the inside, people will wonder what you did to make things look shiny and new. Subtle, but noticeable improvements like these can make all the difference.

6. Flooring

Carpet was mentioned earlier, but for some rooms, it imay not be the best option. You might need new tile in a bathroom or hardwood in a living room. Or you might want to consider options like tile that looks like wood or waterproof vinyl that mimics everything from stone to hardwood.

Whatever you choose, winter is a great time for flooring projects because the dry, heated air is ideal for most projects. For ideas on how to get your home improvement project started, visit [giantcarpetone.com](< https://goo.gl/SttjJr>) today.
