THE GRAND STAIRCASE — Utah is often lauded for its beautiful and interesting landscapes.
People visit our national parks from all over the world to see arches and red rocks and buttes and vistas that are like nowhere else. Heck, Utah is also Hollywood’s favorite go-to when they need a set that looks like Mars or any number of alien (and Western) locales.
But today our great parks take a back seat to our majestically domed state capitol. OK, so the dome doesn’t make our capitol unique as far as state capitols go, but add a Harlem Globetrotter and a Guinness World record attempt, and it gets a bit more special.
Thunder Law is the Globetrotter participating in this video, and his goal was to beat the standing record for “highest upward basketball shot” of 32.8 feet. Which, of course, he makes, or the video wouldn’t be a thing.
The hoop was hauled up with a crane, and Law carefully lobs the ball over his back to make the shot. The great thing about the record bust is that Law beat it by over 17 feet, setting the new record at a whopping 50 feet 1 inches.
This record is Law’s fourth, and it’s the seventeenth record for the Globetrotters.
P.S. I hope you enjoy having the Harlem Globetrotter theme whistle stuck in your head all day. I know I will.
