DADVILLE — As a dad, I relate to this video.

I can't tell you what our deal is, but this is the most perfect example of a dad ever. We do everything in our power to make sure our kids don't get hurt, but we're going to do it in the most laid back and apathetic way humanly possible. It's called a dad save and it's as inherent in our DNA as our eye color or body odor.

This dad was hanging out with his family on what looks like a hike when his little girl topples off the bridge they're standing on. The mom reacts accordingly with a gasp as she watches her own offspring flirting with disaster. Her mind, I'm sure, immediately goes into thoughts of concussions, stitches, short-term memory loss and all other kinds of worst possible scenarios.

Yesterday's Have You Seen This?

What does the dad do? He just calmly reaches his hand out and catches the toddler without even blinking. That's a dad save. It's basically the physical way to say, "No need to thank me, this is just my job." It's like we're appreciative that our mail delivery person shows up every day and gives us our mail, but it's their job so we're not going to praise them or make too much of a big deal about it. A dad save is like that.

I've been a part of a few myself and my father has had numerous dad saves as he raised five kids, most of us morons.

So next time you see a dad do this don't freak out too much, it's just what we do, now let's go get some dinner.
