SALT LAKE CITY — It's hard to imagine a worse-case scenario for Dante Exum.

Exum has decided to undergo surgery to stabilize the AC joint of his separated left shoulder, the Utah Jazz announced Monday afternoon.

Exum's surgery is scheduled for Oct. 24 in Los Angeles.

Exum injured the shoulder on Oct. 6 when Suns guard T.J. Warren came crashing down on him, attempting to block Exum's layup attempt. Holding his shoulder, Exum sprinted off the court in pain after the incident.

After the injury, Exum consulted with several doctors to decide whether his best course of action would require surgery. Exum, the Jazz, and his representation have decided that surgery is the best course of action for Exum's career, it seems.

The Jazz didn't release a timeframe for Exum's surgery, though shoulder surgery of the type Exum is receiving is likely to take several months of recovery. In other words, Exum is likely to be out at least the majority of the 2017-18 season, if not the entire year. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN referred to the surgical option as "season-ending" in an update on Saturday.

If Exum does miss the season, it will be his second missed year due to injury in the 22-year-old's young career. Exum missed the 2015-16 season after tearing his ACL while playing for Australia.
