SALT LAKE CITY — It was a dark weekend for FBS college football fans in the state of Utah in Week 6.

It started Friday night with BYU’s 24-7 loss to Boise State, the Cougars’ fifth-straight. It continued Saturday afternoon with Utah State’s 27-14 loss to Colorado State. And it (perhaps mercifully) ended with Utah’s first loss of the season, 23-20 to Stanford on Saturday night.

What went wrong this week? Former Utah defensive lineman Christian Cox and BYU linebacker David Nixon join KSL Sportsbeat to break it down.

For the Utes, it starts with Stanford’s Bryce Love. The Heisman Trophy contender ran for a season-low 152 yards and a touchdown against the Utah defense, and quarterback Troy Williams threw a pair of costly interceptions to prevent a late rally.

The Cougars’ quarterback also had interception problems in Tanner Mangum’s first start in a month. They also didn’t help themselves with a less-than-perfect run game against the Broncos and pulled the redshirt capability off freshman Joe Critchlow to try to provide a spark that the downtrodden offense desperately needs.
