PARK CITY — For the third year in a row, hundreds of competitors flocked to the Utah Olympic Park to scramble up a ski jump.

The starting elevation was about 6,870 feet, and the race took runners 400 meters up the near-vertical face of the 2002 Winter Games jump.

Ouch.

This race was the second-to-last stop for the 2017 Red Bull 400 tour, which has also visited Kazakhstan, Turkey, Japan, Russia, Norway, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, Czechia, Austria and Slovenia. The final race of the year will be in Sochi, Russia.

There were three different entry categories for this hyper-intense race, with Jared Shumate of Park City winning the Individual Men’s Solo with a time of 4:25, Megan Foley of Salt Lake City winning the Individual Women’s Solo with a time of 5:24, and Team Washed Up winning the Red Bull 400 coed relay with a time of 2:39.

"My first time was last year and forgot how much it hurt, so I decided to do it again," Foley said. "I never expected to win. I did not go into that final thinking I was going to win it so I’m very surprised, but I’m really, really excited about how it went and couldn’t be happier.”
