LOGAN—The ksl.com sports staff has named Utah State cornerback Jalen Davis as its player of the week. Davis is the first Aggie and defensive player to be selected as player of the week this season.

Jalen Davis, CB, Utah State

Numerous Aggies shined bright in USU’s 40-24 victory over in-state rival BYU on Friday, but none more than Davis. As part of a seven takeaway performance by USU, Davis intercepted three passes for 95 yards while returning two for touchdowns. Davis also defended another pass and added five tackles. Friday was Davis’ second multi-interception game of the season, as the senior recorded two interceptions against Idaho State in early September, one of which he returned for a touchdown.

For his career, Davis has registered 11 interceptions and four touchdowns. In addition to being selected as ksl.com’s player of the week, Davis was named CBSSports.com’s national player of the week yesterday.

Honorable Mentions

Kent Myers, QB, Utah State: An Aggie-heavy group of nominees continues with Myers, who accounted for 209 yards and three touchdowns in USU’s win over BYU. Myers engineered the game’s longest scoring drive—a 9-play, 75-yard parade—on the opening series that ended with him hitting Dax Raymond for a 32-yard touchdown. On the drive, Myers accounted for 70 yards by himself.

Ron’quavion Tarver, WR, Utah State: Tarver was Myers’ favorite target on Friday, hauling in six catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Tarver caught a 36-yard pass from Myers—the Aggies’ biggest offensive play of the night—for the game-tying touchdown late in the second quarter.

Stefan Cantwell, QB, Weber State: A week after being selected as our player of the week for his performance against UC Davis, Cantwell followed it up with another solid showing at Montana State, throwing for 206 yards and rushing for 49 more and a touchdown in the Wildcats’ victory over the Grizzlies, their first in Bozeman since 2008.
