OGDEN — The KSL.com sports staff has named Weber State quarterback Stefan Cantwell as its player of the week, marking the first time a Weber State player has been selected for the distinction this season.
Stefan Cantwell, QB, Weber State
Cantwell threw for three touchdowns and 205 yards on 7-11 passing in Weber State’s 41-3 victory over Big Sky rival UC Davis on Saturday. Cantwell’s day got off to a fast start as he connected with wide receiver Rashid Shaheed for a 67-yard go-ahead touchdown on his first pass attempt of the game. Later, Cantwell found Shaheed for a 54-yard completion before hitting tight end Andrew Vollert for a 17-yard touchdown to extend Weber State’s lead to 28.
Following a UC Davis fumble in the third quarter, Cantwell directed another scoring drive that ended, again, with passing to Vollert for a 13-yard touchdown to put Weber State ahead at the eventual final score of 41-3.
Through four games, Cantwell has compiled 908 passing yards, seven touchdowns and completed 60.8 percent of his passes while leading Weber State to a 3-1 record, the school’s best start since 2008.
