SALT LAKE CITY — A semitruck apparently hit a traffic signal and ripped down the lines attached to it, closing Redwood Road at Indiana Avenue Monday morning.

Police received a call at 5:17 a.m. of downed lines in the road. It appeared a tall truck snagged the traffic light, nearly taking it off, according to Salt Lake City police.

The vehicle also knocked down wires connected to the traffic signals, according to Utah Department of Transportation spokeswoman Lisa Miller.

The traffic signals are not functioning but power to homes and businesses in the area is not affected.

Redwood Road is closed from about 400 South to 900 South. Indiana Avenue is closed in the area, also. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

The earliest the intersection could reopen is around 10:30 a.m., Miller estimated.

Anyone who may have seen what happened or with information about the vehicle involved is asked to call the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000.
