THE TRAILS — One of the best parts of living in Utah is the majesty of the outdoors.
In southern Utah, there's the unmatched red rock of Zion and Arches; the Rocky Mountains in the north offer hiking, skiing and biking that ideally relax the mind and rejuvenate the body.
But the outdoors aren't always calm and breezy.
One mountain biker enjoying his surroundings in Kinkaid, Alaska, found that out the hard way when he ran into an unexpected trail squatter while on his ride.
The biker comes around a corner and spots a black bear in the middle of his path, and quickly ditches his ride off to the side of the road. The video was captured on his chest cam and he uploaded the encounter to share it with the internet.
When asked on Reddit how he reacted to his real-life bear necessities moment, he said this: "Said some inappropriate words. Slowly dragged my bike backwards. And then sprinted in the other direction."
We don't fault the mountain biker's reaction one bit, even if the bear looked pretty mellow. Better safe than eaten.
And since this isn't the first time we've covered outdoors enthusiasts unexpectedly encountering bears on the trail recently, remember to check out KSL.com's tips for safe animal interaction if you plan on going out and about in the wilderness this fall.
