SALT LAKE CITY — All missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who were in the affected area of the massive Mexico earthquake Tuesday are safe, according to a statement released by church officials Thursday morning.
Mission presidents have been in contact with family members of missionaries to let them know they are safe, the church added.
Some missionary apartments "sustained damage, including a few that are now uninhabitable," the statement said. Several LDS chapels were also damaged but the extent is unknown at this point.
The Missionary Training Center in Mexico was not damaged and all residents there are safe.
Church officials said missionaries in the area are "eager to participate" in the cleanup of the destructive earthquake that as of Thursday morning killed at least 245 people and injured over 2,000, according to the Associated Press.
