SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s defensive players were on show in Week 2 of the NFL season. Eric Weddle and Bobby Wagner both make highlight reel interceptions in wins for their teams. Alex Smith continues to impress in his win against the Eagles, only missing seven passes for the game. Garett Bolles goes down with an injury and is carted off the field to a standing ovation. His X-rays come back negative for an Achilles tear.

Eric Weddle (Utah):

Weddle is in his 11th season in the NFL and still showing he has a lot left in his tank. Weddle was let go by the Chargers two years ago, when they felt he was on the decline of his career. The Baltimore Ravens were happy to pick up the four-time pro bowl and two-time All-Pro safety to help their already daunting defense.

Sunday's game against Cleveland showed that Weddle hasn't yet started to decline. Weddle had a total four tackles for the game against the Browns and one athletic, diving interception. The interception came with 30 seconds left in the first quarter, with Cleveland driving to tie the game at seven. The Browns were on the Ravens 26-yard line when the Browns ran a screen pass that got tipped in the air by the receiver. Weddle was able to locate the ball in the air and dive, one-handed, for the interception.

Bobby Wagner (Utah State):

On Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks showed they are still one of the premier defenses in the NFL. Bobby Wagner, former Aggie, leads the ball-hawking Seahawks defense as one of the two defensive team captains. Wagner showed he is one of the premier linebackers in the league against San Francisco.

Wagner finished the game with seven total tackles in the win against the 49ers. He also had two pass deflections for the game.

Wagner showed how fundamentally sound he is with an interception that every youth football player should watch over and over.

His interception came in the first quarter when 49er quarterback Brian Hoyer stepped back for a shot pass to Carlos Hyde. Wagner read the play perfectly: Hoyer tried to look off the receiver, but Wagner wasn't fooled. He kept his eye on the quarterback and anticipated the throw. Hoyer threw the ball right to the perfectly positioned Seahawks linebacker.

Alex Smith (Utah):

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith thew 28 passes in Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles and only missed seven passes. That is a completion percentage of 75 and brings his average for the first two games to 77.8 percent.

Smith had a total of 251 yards passing, 21 yards rushing and one touchdown pass. Smith finished the game with a quarterback rating of 113.8, which keeps his average for the season better than his career rating of 86.

The Chiefs next play the Los Angeles Chargers on the 27th, who have given up an average of 254 yards passing this season.

Garett Bolles (Utah):

Bolles of the Denver Broncos may have had his rookie season come to an end on Sunday, when he was taken off the field on a cart during his team's win against Dallas. The game was delayed, which may have led to the injury to Bolles, due to weather.

Bolles' injury came during the second half after the game resumed. Bolles left the game with a lower leg injury. The initial report said he may have injured his Achilles tendon, but X-rays were inconclusive. An MRI is scheduled for Bolles on Monday.
