LEHI — Skyridge High School is in just the second season of program history, but after the Falcons routed visiting Spanish Fork on Friday night to improve to 5-0, second-year coach Jon Lehman had one message for his team.

They haven’t done anything yet.

“To be honest, it doesn’t actually mean anything,” Lehman said. “We’re heading into region play next week, and everybody has a blank slate — whether you are 0-5 or 5-0. Now is when you want to be executing and playing your best football.”

Jayden Clemons threw five touchdown passes, including two each to Colby Samuels and Baden Stambaugh, to help the Falcons roll up a 52-7 win over Spanish Fork on the final weekend of non-region play.

But like his coach, Clemons knows there is still another gear left.

“I’m really excited for where this team is going,” said Clemons, a junior who has thrown 13 touchdowns with just two interceptions. “But 5-0 at this point, as my coach said, it doesn’t matter right now. We’re going into region play … and we’ve got to keep moving forward. But we looked pretty good, to be honest.”

The Falcons had four touchdowns called back, including the opening kick return for a score, and had their first drive end in an interception by the Dons’ Trey Loftin that took Spanish Fork (3-2) inside the 10-yard line.

But the Skyridge defense forced a stop on fourth-and-goal, and Alex Palmer blitzed up the seam for a 93-yard touchdown run on the next play to give the home team a lead it would never relinquish.

Despite that slow start, Clemons hit Stambaugh with a 10-yard touchdown pass, then spun another 10-yard strike with 2:30 remaining to give the Falcons (5-0) a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.

“We talk about sudden changes in adversity, and why I was really happy that we rose to the challenge in that situation,” Lehman said. “It was as bad an energy as we could’ve had, having a touchdown called back and a turnover. But our defense rose up in the moment, and that was really good for us.”

Clemons hit Samuels with a 6-yard TD on the first drive of the second quarter, added an 8-yard strike to end the frame, and Conner Harris’ 28-yard field goal gave the Falcons a 38-0 halftime lead and instituted a running clock for the remainder of the game.

After that, Skyridge’s defense and special teams took over. The Falcons forced an interception, two sacks, a fumble kick return and another punt on the Dons’ first four drives of the second half before Spencer Tonga scampered into the end zone with 2:58 remaining in the contest to prevent the shutout.

“When our defense is topping their offense and giving us momentum, you just have to sit back and smile,” Clemons said. “We know when we drive the field and score, it’s good for us and good for the defense.”

Skyridge opens Region 8 play next Friday at Provo, while Spanish Fork visits Salem Hills to open Region 10 play.

“We’re a team that is just trying to take a step forward every day, and we’ve really done that,” Lehman said. “I thought we played with great energy, and that was probably our cleanest game from a decision standpoint. There were very few mental mistakes, from alignments to assignments.

“When we do that, we can be a really good team.”

Weber 37, Viewmont 17

At Weber, Carter Green rushed for three touchdowns and Ryan Hogge returned an interception 10 yards for a score as the Warriors pulled away from the Vikings in the KSL TV Game of the Week.

Davis Weir threw for a pair of touchdowns for Viewpoints, which pulled within 17-10 at halftime before the Warriors used a 14-0 third-quarter spurt capped by Hogge’s pick-six to pull away for good.

Weber (4-1) won its fourth-straight game, while Viewmont dropped to 3-2.

Skyline 42, Brighton 28

At Brighton, Tommy McGrath threw five touchdown passes to help the Eagles hand the Bengals their first loss of the season.

Taylor Larsen caught three touchdown passes for Skyline (3-1), which beat Brighton for the first time since 2008.

Brighton quarterback Alexander Zettler had two scoring runs to lead the Bengals (4-1).

Snow Canyon 27, Pine View 20

At Snow Canyon, Austin Staheli tossed two touchdown passes to Andrew Day as the Warriors held on to beat the Panthers in the regular season for the first time since 2009.

Snow Canyon’s defense held the Panthers to three points in the second half after clinging to a 20-17 halftime advantage.

Staheli’s second TD strike, a 26-yarder to Day, sealed the win for the Warriors.
