SALT LAKE CITY — The Jazz are adding a mid-major point guard to their roster, though this one will have to compete for a full roster spot.
Nate Wolters, the former South Dakota State Jackrabbit, has signed a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. Wolters played last season with Serbian team Crvena zvezda and has previous seasons with the Turkish team Besiktas, as well as the Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans.
It was in his rookie season with the Bucks that Wolters made the largest impact. Wolters started 31 games for the Bucks, averaging 7.2 points and 3.2 assists in over 22 minutes per game.
Wolters was beloved by Bucks fans, as shown in this post from Bucks website "Bucksketball." He's known as a hard worker, though was waived by the Bucks so that they could sign Kenyon Martin two seasons ago.
Wolters is a careful point guard, who specialized in keeping turnover totals low while in the NBA. In his NBA time, he disappointed as an outside shooter, shooting just 26 percent from 3-point range, but improved to 38 percent from deep in 27 Euroleague games last season for Crvena.
After signing a two-way contract, Wolters will likely initially join the SLC Stars, the minor league G-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz. Wolters is eligible to be called up to the Utah Jazz for up to 45 days before he has to be given a standard NBA deal. Earlier this summer, the Jazz signed Eric Griffin to a two-way contract; each NBA team is allowed to have two two-way contracts signed at any time.
