SALT LAKE CITY — Another week of college football has passed and there were several exciting games to watch, including the big BYU-Utah rivalry game.

Each week, the KSL.com sports staff will name its local Player of the Week for their performance over the weekend. This week, the award again goes to University of Utah sophomore Tyler Huntley.

Tyler Huntley, QB, Utah

In back-to-back weeks, the starting quarterback for Utah has been the most impressive player from the state of Utah. Huntley accounted for 389 yards of total offense in Utah’s 19-13 win over BYU Saturday. Huntley managed to score Utah’s only touchdown of the game on a broken play.

Huntley was the team’s leading rusher with 89 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries. He averaged 4.7 yards per attempt and was a difficult player for the Cougars to rein in. Huntley threw for 300 yards and no interceptions on 27-of-36 passing in the win.

Huntley continues to be one of the most dynamic players to watch in the state and an up-and-coming player to watch nationally. His performance got the attention of former Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd over the weekend, who tweeted about how Huntley will someday be a “household name.”

Honorable mentions:

  • Stefan Cantwell, QB, Weber State: The Wildcats put up a tough performance against Cal behind their quarterback’s incredible night. Had the Wildcats won, Cantwell would have easily been the Player of the Week. Cantwell finished throwing for 431 yards and one touchdown on 25-of-44 passing. He added 61 yards and one touchdown on the ground on 20 carries.
  • Darren Carrington II, WR, Utah: Carrington had another solid performance, finishing the game with 129 passing yards on seven catches.
  • Patrick Tyler, QB, Southern Utah: Tyler led his team to a 51-14 victory over Stephen F. Austin Saturday. Tyler threw for 414 yards and four touchdowns on 28-of-39 passing. He added 48 yards and one touchdown on the ground on seven carries.
