SALT LAKE CITY — Here are 10 stories you may have missed this weekend. As always, click on the headline to read the full story.

1. Hurricane Irma gives Florida a coast-to-coast pummeling

Hurricane Irma gave Florida a coast-to-coast pummeling with winds up to 130 mph Sunday, swamping homes and boats, knocking out power to millions and toppling massive construction cranes over the Miami skyline.

2. Utah agencies, professionals assisting or preparing to help Floridians

As residents, medical professionals and emergency responders waited for Hurricane Irma to make landfall along the west coast of Florida, Ally Okazaki took her position at a local hospital, ready to assist.

She and five other volunteers from Orem's Timpanogos Regional Hospital flew into Florida Friday to help local hospitals when the hurricane passes through. As a nurse, she is assigned to help at the Osceola Regional Hospital, which is out of the direct path of the hurricane but is prepared to take patients evacuated out of the path left by the hurricane.

3. Uintah Fire is 100 percent contained, officials say

The Uintah Fire has been 100 percent contained, fire officials announced on Sunday.

Weber Fire District officials have placed the fire into “monitoring status” and will continue patrolling the fire at random for the next 5 to 7 days, officials from the agency said.

4. Police ID 2 killed in Millcreek head-on collision

Francisco Perez-Olvera, 42, and Summer Dudley, 27, died after a two-car head-on crash near 4200 South and 700 East about 6:30 a.m. Both were the drivers of the cars involved, according to Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

5. Man shoots pit bull who was attacking his dog, Logan police say

Logan police responded to a call at Ray Hugie Hydro Park, U.S. 89 and Canyon Road, shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday of a man with a concealed weapons permit who had shot one of a pair of pit bulls.

It was unclear how the fight between the dogs began but the man tried to stop the attack by pulling out a gun and firing a pair of warning shots into the ground, hoping to scare the pit bulls away.

2. Huntley totals 389 yards, Utah beats rival BYU 19-13

Utah players danced in the corner of BYU's stadium Saturday night as red-and-white clad fans shouted, "Seven! Seven! Seven!"

Utah quarterback Tyler Huntley combined for 389 total yards and a touchdown as the Utes beat rival BYU 19-13.

3. With chip on his shoulder, USU senior Jalen Davis returns to the field with a bang

In the USU home-opener on Thursday night, Davis had a big chip on his shoulder, and it showed.

The senior from La Mesa, California, tied his career-high for interceptions in a game with two. The second pick of the night was returned 25 yards for a touchdown that gave USU a 31-6 lead in the second quarter.

4. Waston, Reyna score in 2nd half, Whitecaps beat Salt Lake

Kendall Waston and Yordy Reyna scored in the second half and the Vancouver Whitecaps beat Real Salt Lake 3-2 on Saturday night.

5. KSL Game of the Week: South Summit tops Beaver in clash of 2A powers

South Summit and Beaver aren’t regional rivals in the purest sense of the word.

But the two Class 2A schools have built up a rivalry on the most important item on any high school football team’s list: a championship.
