SALT LAKE CITY — The Jazz's minor-league basketball team in Salt Lake City has a new president.

Jonathan Rinehart, who spent the last 12 years with the Jazz, the last three as the team's vice president of communications, was named team president of the Salt Lake City Stars in a release today. The position was previously held by Bart Sharp, who was appointed to the senior vice president of marketing position for the Utah Jazz.

Rinehart's role won't be primarily basketball-related. Instead, he'll be in charge of the ticket sales, sponsorships, community relations, and all of the off-floor aspects of the Stars. The Jazz's basketball operations department will continue to lead the Stars' basketball decisions, led by Bart Taylor, who has the title of vice president of basketball operations.

"As the Stars begin their second season in Salt Lake City, we are pleased to have Jonathan in a management role due to his extensive experience in the NBA and knowledge about the business and basketball sides of a franchise,” Don Stirling, executive vice president of Larry H. Miller Sports and Entertainment said in a release.

The Jazz have nearly 30 employees with the title of "vice president," according to a personnel list on UtahJazz.com.

Rinehart worked with Jazz media throughout his tenure with the team, organizing interviews and credentialing for Jazz games and Utah Jazz Summer League. His experience dealing with Salt Lake market media was key in the Jazz's decision to hire him, as they try to expand the minor-league team's footprint since relocating to Salt Lake City from Boise. There is no word yet as to who will replace Rinehart in his former role as vice president of communications.

He begins his role as Stars team president Sept. 1.
