WOODRUFF, Rich County — A 10-year-old boy suffered serious burns after trying to start a campfire on Saturday, fire officials reported.
His family were camping at the Monte Cristo Campground near Woodruff. In an attempt to start a fire around 5:30 p.m., the boy "had gotten a hold of a small bottle of rubbing alcohol and sprayed it on the fire," said Weber Fire Capt. Paul Lund.
The boy suffered serious second-degree burns on 30 to 40 percent of his body, Lund said. A 46-year-old man also suffered second-degree burns on his right arm and the right side of his neck.
The child was flown to the burn unit at University Hospital, Lund said.
