CHICAGO — Andy Phillips was one of the most reliable kickers in Utah football history, converting 84 of 100 field-goal attempts and 175-176 extra points in his four-year career with the Utes.

He was also an excellent ambassador for the university. In his time at Utah, the Draper native left a promising alpine career with the U.S. Ski Team for football and earned a master’s degree in information systems.

Since signing a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears in the NFL, “Automatic Andy” hasn’t changed as much as you’d think. He was recently brought in to help conduct the Bears’ Mini-Monsters’ youth football camp for 150 aspiring football players through the league’s “Play 60” program on Chicago’s South Side.

“We’ve got a couple of drills, and the kids were having a blast. We had a blast,” Phillips said. “It’s a cool opportunity for us to give back and to fill more connected to this city. A lot of us rookies are from everywhere, so this was a cool way to get involved and get to know the culture in Chicago.”
