SALT LAKE CITY — For Utah, “Bobo” is no more.
The Utah Jazz waived power forward Boris Diaw on Thursday, two days before his contract for the 2017-18 season would have become guaranteed, according to Yahoo’s Shams Charania. Diaw was slated to make $7.5 million next season.
Diaw averaged 4.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game last season for the Jazz in just under 18 minutes per contest. Diaw emerged as a surprising starter for the team in the wake of injuries to Derrick Favors, starting 33 games in the regular season and nine of Utah’s 11 playoff contests.
Diaw said his goodbyes to the Jazz in an Instagram post Thursday.

The waiver was necessary for the Jazz to make salary cap room for the signings of Thabo Sefolosha, Jonas Jerebko, and Ekpe Udoh, all announced in the past 24 hours. Those deals are all two-year commitments.
The Jazz now have 15 players on the roster who have signed contracts, the maximum the team can have to start the regular season. The Jazz can have 20 players on the roster ahead of training camp, however. Raul Neto’s contract is also not guaranteed, but he is still on the roster.
