LAS VEGAS — Former Utah State standout Jalen Moore wasn’t one of the two local players who heard his name called on draft night.

But when the NBA summer league wraps up this week in Las Vegas, he may find himself with one of the more stable jobs going into his rookie season of pro basketball.

Moore signed a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks last week, becoming one of two players to secure a spot on the Bucks’ roster for his rookie season via the new rule that benefits teams and their affiliates in the NBA G League.

“I’m just looking forward to coming out and playing my game, whether they need me to play three or four. I’ll rebound, run the court … and bring energy to the team,” Moore told the media in Las Vegas after the Bucks announced his contract. “We’re looking to come out and make a name for the team the first time we played.”

Two-way contract players are not part of the original 15-player NBA roster, officially joining the G League roster for much of the season — in Milwaukee’s case, the expansion Wisconsin Herd. But two-way players can spend up to 45 days with Milwaukee, not including preseason and training camp practices.

In addition to playing time in the G League and with NBA affiliates via call-ups, two-way contracted players can earn an NBA salary on a pro-rata basis with the parent club, in addition to their G League salary.

The 6-foot-8 wing who prepped at Sky View High School has already shown the Bucks he can be a contributor when called upon. He had arguably his best day of summer league Monday. He had five rebounds in an 88-83 win over Brooklyn on Sunday, then followed it up with a three-point, four rebound performance in a 100-93 loss to the Clippers on Monday.

As teams concluded pool play in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Moore was averaging 3.0 points, 3.3 rebounds in 19.2 minutes per game with Milwaukee.

“I’m looking forward to being the athlete that I am, and just going out and having fun with it.”

POELTL POWER — Second-year post Jakob Poeltl has been making a case for more playing time for Toronto with his summer league play.

The 7-foot center from Utah posted 17 points, 10 rebounds and two assists Monday in an 82-81 win over Denver.

Poeltl is averaging 10.0 rebounds per game for the Raptors, the fourth-most in Las Vegas.

SENGLIN SCORES — Weber State all-time leading scorer Jeremy Senglin has been trying to prove himself as an NBA point guard during his summer league tryout with the Brooklyn Nets.

But on Monday, he did what he does best.

Senglin is averaging 8.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game for the Nets, and he poured in 14 points in 19 minutes in a 95-66 win Monday over New Orleans.
