SALT LAKE CITY — A man who was convicted in September of sexual battery has now been arrested and charged for allegedly trying to have sex with a 13-year-old girl, according to court documents.

The "girl," however, was actually an undercover officer from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Eli Timothy Sherman, 27, of Provo, was charged Wednesday in 3rd District Court with two counts of enticing a minor, a second-degree felony.

On May 25, Sherman began texting and emailing a person he thought was a 13-year-old girl, according to charging documents. The undercover agent was reportedly responding to a post Sherman made on Craigslist, the charges state.

When the undercover agent tells Sherman that he's a 13-year-old girl, Sherman replied, "I'll even hook up with you if you please don't tell anyone," according to court documents.

The two continued to communicate and Sherman told the girl he wanted to have sex with her. The two agreed to meet on Monday. When Sherman arrived at the designated meeting place in West Valley City, he was greeted by task force agents and arrested.

In September, Sherman was convicted of two counts of sexual battery, a class A misdemeanor, and placed on two years' probation. He was originally charged in that case with unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, a third-degree felony. In a progress report filed with the court on May 5, case agents recommended more counseling and treatment for Sherman, including psych medication management, according to court records.
