SALT LAKE CITY — A “one more week” chant could be heard from the Park City student section as the Miners defeated the Pine View Panthers 48-21 in the 4A semifinal game at Rice-Eccles Stadium Thursday night.
Park City quarterback Jack Skidmore threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 6-of-9 passing in the win. He also rushed for 109 yards and two more touchdowns.
“This is great,” Skidmore said. “We just wanted to come back and take care of business, we just wanted redemption. I think we got it, but we still got one more game left, we’re not done yet.”
Park City got its scoring going when Dylan Bauer rushed for a 37-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give the Miners an early lead. Bauer would finish the night with 20 carries for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
After its first score, the Miners defense intercepted Pine View quarterback Macloud Crowton. The interception set up Bauer's second touchdown of the night, a 2-yard run to give the Park City a two-score lead.
The Pine View offense came into the game as th No. 1 team in the state in the 4A classification, but the Panthers couldn't get into a rhythm against the Miners defense and only managed 14 points in the first half.
Pine View's Enoch Takau rushed for a 2-yard touchdown late in the first quarter to make it a one-score game, but Park City found the end zone again when Skidmore escaped for 73-yard rushing touchdown.
The Panthers answered back on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Crowton to Dominique McKenzie, but the Miners scored again when Skidmore connected on an 8-yard toss to Andrew Mcknight-Pederson to give the Miners a 26-14 lead at the half.
The second half was all Park City as the Miners defense forced two interceptions, one of which led to 7 points, and the offense reeled off 22 points in the second half. The defense also got into the backfield and sacked Crowton nine times on the night.
“We’ve been very proud of our defense,” Park City head coach Josh Montzingo said. “We think that physical ball is the way it should be played and that includes playing great defense and we’ve done that all year.”
Senior Chase Johansen led the Miners with three sacks and said he knew the defense was going up against a tough offense and that they needed to play the Panthers tough.
“They’re a great offense,” Johansen said. “But I think it shows just how great our defense is and we need to be taken seriously.”

The Miners defense held the Panthers to just 21 points on the night after averaging 45.2 points per game, which is the fewest points the Panthers have scored all season.
The Panthers didn’t score in the second half until there was 4:48 left in the game — a 31-yard pass from Crowton to Marcus McKenzie to save from a second-half shutout.
Park City will play the winner of the Sky View-Dixie semifinal, which takes place on Friday at 5:50 p.m. at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
