Utah quarterback Troy Williams needed 3 yards to give the Utes an upset victory over the USC Trojans, but was tackled short of the goal line on a 2-point conversion with under a minute to play. The failed attempt gave the Trojans a 28-27 victory.
The Week 7 slate kicks off early tomorrow as BYU hits the road to play at Mississippi State. Utah State hosts Wyoming in MWC action and the Utes face Pac-12 south division rival USC in LA. The two national games this week features the Red River Shootout between Oklahoma and Texas and Florida hosting Texas A&M.
In Week 5, consistency is starting to show for Utah athletes. Alex Smith ties NFL record with 11 touchdown passes without an interception and continues to lead league in completion percentage. Nick Vigil and Bobby Wagner lead their defenses to wins.
It’s about execution. That’s the answer players and coaches of any team give when an offensive scheme fails to work. And in Utah’s case Saturday, there was certainly not enough execution on the offensive side of the ball in a 23-20 loss.
